Parks Victoria has announced the commencement of a new program Volunteer Park Guides, with initial tours being held at Yarra Bend Park in Kew and the Bogong High Plains in the Alpine National Park.
The new Volunteer Park Guides program will enable passionate community members to become more actively involved by engaging with park visitors, sharing their knowledge and experience, and creating a lasting memory for all involved.
At Yarra Bend, visitors will be able to embark on Flying Fox Discovery tours to learn all about the fascinating grey-headed flying foxes that inhabit the beautiful inner-city park. Visitors will get the chance to see the flying foxes up close in their natural habitat and experience a truly unique wildlife encounter. The Flying Fox Discovery Tours will be conducted at various times and dates between November and December.
For those looking to travel further afield, The Alps Discovery Experience will immerse visitors in the cultural heritage of the Bogong High Plains, while showcasing the unique flora and fauna of the Alpine National Park. The Alps Discovery Experience will be held at various times during late December and January 2019 with guides located in the Wallace’s hut precinct for most of the nominated day.
The tours have been designed to showcase some of the most interesting elements of our Parks, with these two sites trialling the appetite for the free, fun and educational program.
Parks Victoria operates five key programs across a number of parks including Volunteer Campground Host, Volunteer Track Ranger, Volunteer Park Guides, Volunteer Sherpas and Sea Search with various additional activities for getting involved.
