Us very wide footed or very narrow footed souls have been bereft for a while now. Sportiva discontinued the Xplorer and there wasn’t much to fill the gap. What to do if you want to fully adjust your whole foot’s lacing to accommodate wide toes? The view was bleak.

Finally we can rejoice with Scarpa’s new sundowner-spirited Mojito Hike GTX following along the lines of climbing shoes, lacing right up to the tips of your toes. As Scarpa’s often fit tight while breaking in anyway, this gives wearers a whole heap of new freedom in a high quality, long lasting boot.

As well as creative lacing, the boots themselves promise to hold up to Scarpa’s impeccable quality. (One of our writers has now clocked up 350km in the central Aussie desert and her Mid GTX Scarpa boots look brand new -- see full review in the Great Walks Annual out soon).

The Salix sole is comfortable, assures grip on any terrain, is built with shock absorbing features and is designed to be self cleaning so you won’t be picking gumnuts and stones out of your shoe tread ever again. You also won’t feel trapped at the ankles as the Flex-Point is a special upper design that allows the natural angle variation between foot and leg during walking, and heel support system for better lateral stability. The GORE-TEX outer keeps water out and memory foam in the ankle padding adjusts to individual fit.

We’re really excited to see how these boots hold up out there in the field so make sure to let us know how you go with them if you pick up a pair!
