The cover for the Great Walks Aug-Sept issue has been revealed and it's a shot of a bushwalker on WA's iconic Cape to Cape Track in the Margaret River region.

The theme for the issue is 'home for the holidays' and we showcase some of Australia's finest walking trails. As you know we can't holiday overseas at the moment so now is a great time to explore Australia on foot.

Columnist Caro Ryan gives us 10 reasons why our continent is the perfect walking destination including: We’re a country of countries – the diversity of habitats in Australia means that there is a climate and terrain to suit everyone. From alpine to coastal, rainforest to desert, country to city, our wide brown land has got you covered.

And with this in mind, the issue we explores Qld's Carnarvon Gorge, Victoria's Great South West Walk and Tjoritja / West MacDonnell NP in Central Australia.

We also offer 10 great walks to do during a mid-life crisis, for example: Symptom: Feeling a need for adventure and change. Cure: If you want an adventure and a change from a comfortable life, try a wilderness walk like the Port Davey Track, located in the beautiful remote region of southwest Tasmania. This challenging walk covers 70km from Lake Pedder and Melaleuca and there are no comfortable lodges on the way, so be prepared to muck in and get muddy.

Our walking tour operator special gives you an update on how companies have been coping under COVID lockdown, and – now that we can begin travelling again – what destinations they are focussing on for the rest of 2020 and beyond.

The mag is at the printers and next week we'll tell you when it's going to be on newsagents' shelves and in subscribers' hands.
