The North African country of Morocco offers some of the most stunning trekking in the world, with a perfect blend of natural beauty and cultural wonder and our good friends at Toubkal Adventures knows the country like the back on their hand!

"Trekking is one of the very best things that Morocco has to offer. The soaring peaks of the mountain ranges and the gentler, ancient valleys bring people from all over the world to visit us time and time again," Toubkal Adventures told Great Walks.

"Our walking and trekking tours take you to remote areas that are off-the-beaten-track and introduce you to our traditional Berber villages and their local, friendly people who are still living their lives in ways that have changed very little over many, many years. Why not come and meet them in their own land?"

Morocco is beautiful all year round, but if you want to trek their during the summer, you should head for the High Atlas and join Toubkal Adventures in an ascent of either Mount Toubkal (4167m, North Africa’s highest peak), or Jebel M’goun (4071m, North Africa’s 2nd highest). You can even climb both!

In Morocco’s winter we can go trekking further south to walk in the Anti-Atlas or the Jebel Saghro ranges. This is a popular option for those new to trekking or looking for a gentle one week holiday which combines the best of rural Morocco and the vibrant city-life of Marrakech.

You’ll traverse rocky cliffs, sand dunes, gorges, and oases. The terrain is rugged but rewarding, with panoramic vistas around every turn. Be prepared for ascents and descents on uneven ground. Proper hiking boots, walking sticks, and conditioning are musts.

Replenish your energy after a long day of trekking with delicious Moroccan cuisine. Hearty tagine stews, fluffy couscous, savory kebabs, and fresh salads will satisfy your appetite. Mint tea is the perfect pick-me-up. Most treks include meals, but you may want to pack some snacks as well in case of longer hiking stretches.
