Blue Mountains’ Leura Cascades light up again

Includes renewed walking tracks

Leura Cascades in the NSW Blue Mountains has reopened following an upgrade that includes renewed walking tracks and the return of feature lighting to Chelmsford Bridge, almost 100 years after the site was first illuminated.

The $5 million NSW Government-funded project has delivered a safer and more resilient walking experience while improving connections to Chelmsford Bridge, the Prince Henry Cliff Walk and the Grand Cliff Top Walk.

Works include renewing 200 metres of track, steps and landings, restoring feature lighting at the base of Chelmsford Bridge and installing under-rail lighting towards the Meeting of the Waters. A new footbridge crosses Leura Falls Creek, while improved drainage, all-weather access, seating, signage and water refill stations have also been added.

Leura Cascades became the Blue Mountains’ first illuminated scenic site in 1932, allowing visitors to walk as far as Bridal Veil Falls after dark. Nearly a century later, a section of the track has been relit to the Meeting of the Waters, with lighting levels and operating hours carefully limited to suit the sensitive environment.

The upgrade forms part of the Grand Cliff Top Walk between Wentworth Falls and Katoomba, another NSW Government-funded project delivered by Blue Mountains City Council, this is all great news for bushwalkers wanting to explore this wonderful part of the state.
