September is Save the Koala Month, with celebrations culminating with Save the Koala Day on September 29, and the theme is 'Love Is In the Air'.

This year’s theme is an ode to these furry mammals and spring, the season when they leave their trees looking for a mate – Australian Koala Foundation’s (AKF) poster boy, Chester, has his heart set on Brittany.

There may be as few as 43,000 koalas left in the wild and they are all under threat from habitat destruction, the AFK estimates.

“There is such a long way to go to ensure the long-term survival of the Koala,” says Deborah Tabart OAM, known as the Koala Woman.

“But, with so much love for this true-blue Aussie icon from people all around the globe, we can do it. Everyone can help in some way, and it’s crucial that we all do what we can.”

There are plenty of ways for individuals and community groups to support the koala during September – for more information click here.
