Registration for Oxfam Trailwalker Sydney is closing on Friday, July 5 at 5pm. So if you and your mates have been playing with the idea of taking on this challenge – and raising much-needed funds for this amazing charity now's the time to put your money where your mouth is!

Oxfam Trailwalker is a global event where teams of four walk 50–55km or 100km of bush trail in under 24 or 48 hours respectively to tackle poverty.

There are a number of Oxfam Trailwalker events in Sydney and it'll be Sydney's turn over the weekend of 23–25 August 2019.

Tips to success
Here are a few tips from Dennis Goldner, The Deloitte Foundation Chairman and Oxfam Trailwalker Legend who has 20 x 100km events under his belt:
Don’t exert yourself in the last week – it’s time to taper
Make sure your footwear is just right for you – wear shoes or boots that are well worn in and have at least one spare pair in your bag
Dennis recommends taping your feet for blister prevention (his favourite is Fixomull)
Wear comfy socks that don’t get too hot and change often, especially if your feet are damp
He’s a big fan of walking poles – they take a few kilos load off your knees with every pace
Try not to spend longer than necessary at checkpoints, except where you’re having a meal
This is a true team event, not just a combination of 4 individuals – Be there for each other especially in the wee hours of the night
Look after your slowest team mate
Have fun – it’ll be fun and immensely satisfying to do the 100km – you’ll be stiff, sore and slow for a day or two but the endorphins will make you feel great!
