ABOUT WILDERNESS PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR

Great Walks' Wilderness Photographer of the Year, presented by Nokia, is searching for the best outdoor images captured by Australian photographers.

Wilderness Photographer of the Year has been created to encourage you to get outdoors, explore the world by foot and share your photos of wilderness areas from Australia and around the world.

The best images, including winners, runners-up and the Top 20 in each category will be published in the December-January 2022 issue of Great Walks magazine, and on www.greatwalks.com.au.

Winners and runners-up will also share in a prize pool of over $14,000 including $4,000 cash, and prizes including the latest Nokia smartphones, a three-day walking tour of Tasmania's Three Capes with Life's an Adventure, an overnight Milford Sound Escape with Active Adventures, and a team entry into Oxfam Trailwalker.

WHAT IS WILDERNESS?

For this competition we've defined wilderness as any natural environment that has not been significantly modified by human activity. However, images that show the effects of human impact on the environment can be entered in the competition, in the context of illustrating the fragility or resilience of the natural world.

CATEGORIES

There are two categories in Wilderness Photographer of the Year, Places and People. It's pretty simple, the People category is for shots of the wilderness that include people in the frame, Places is for images that do not include people in the frame. If you're unsure which category to enter an image send us an email at photocomp@greatwalks.com.au.
