Here at Great Walks we like to think we’re fairly open-minded when it comes to hiking footwear.
Trailrunners? Fine. Chunky boots? Of course. Sandals with socks? We’ll allow it (grudgingly). But this latest “trend” has stopped us mid-track, staring at our feet in mild confusion.
Furry shoes.
Yes, really. Proper, out-in-public, strutting-down-the-street furry/hairy shoes.
Straight from the catwalks of Milan Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week, they’re apparently everywhere right now.
According to Vogue, “furry shoes are the stars of the autumn/winter 2025–2026 fashion shows”, popping up in every colour and shape imaginable.
Gucci is sending fluffy pumps down the runway, while Iconic Italian designer Massimo Giorgetti has opted for a more understated chocolate-brown fuzz situation. Naturally, the bag is furry too, because once you’ve committed, you may as well go full sheep.
And no, we’re not talking about cosy slippers for the lounge room. These are outdoor shoes. For actual pavements. Possibly even puddles, if you’re feeling brave.
Which does beg the question: how long before they hit the trail? Because nothing says “serious bushwalker” like arriving at camp with wet, matted footwear that looks like it’s wandered off a farm. Still, if you’re keen, a pair of pony-hair trainers will only set you back a cool $255. Bargain.
