South Australian, Kelly Johnson, founder of Woodlane Orchard and SPhiker in Murray Bridge, is redefining bushwalking food with her innovative, sustainable approach to trail-ready meals.
SPhiker’s lightweight, shelf-stable, plant-based meals are designed to fuel outdoor adventures without compromising on nutrition, taste or environmental impact.
Born from Kelly’s passion for the outdoors and her experience as a Scout Leader, SPhiker meals are crafted from locally sourced surplus produce, then dehydrated and packed in home-compostable pouches — perfect for carrying in a backpack and leaving no trace behind.
What began with a rescued batch of peaches has grown into a business at the forefront of food innovation. Since launching in 2023, SPhiker’s meals have gained popularity beyond the trail, now serving elderly Australians, solo diners and eco-conscious consumers alike.
SPhiker operates from a former Chinese restaurant filled with family memories, embodying a full-circle journey rooted in community and sustainability. Kelly also runs workshops teaching others how to create their own bushwalking meals and preserve backyard produce.
Her efforts earned the 2024 Premier’s Food and Beverage Award for Sustainability and the 2025 AgriFutures Rural Women’s Award for South Australia — a testament to her mission to nourish people and planet, one trail at a time.
