Good news for those planning a trip to Bruny Island for some walking and exploring—weekday afternoon ferry services have been reinstated.

Transport Minister Eric Abetz announced that following discussions with ferry operator SeaLink and input from frustrated residents, additional weekday sailings will resume starting today. The decision comes in response to widespread complaints about long wait times caused by a reduced winter schedule.

The revised timetable restores several key afternoon and evening departures that had been previously cut. New sailings now include departures from Roberts Point at 3:10pm, 5:00pm, 5:20pm, 6:00pm, and 6:40pm, as well as added services from Kettering at 2:50pm and 4:40pm.

These changes help eliminate the nearly hour-long gap between the 4:40pm and 5:30pm ferries, which had left many islanders stranded during peak times last month.

“The community told us that the congestion caused by the earlier changes was not sustainable—and as a regular visitor to Bruny Island, I agree,” said Minister Abetz.

The original timetable revision in early May led to heavy congestion, particularly during peak hours, after SeaLink cut multiple daily services. Local families were especially impacted, with one parent describing a routine trip to Snug for football training turning into a four-hour ordeal.
