The Great Dividing Trail Association has released a remarkable new 144-page guidebook that explores the 84km Lerderderg Track between Daylesford and Bacchus Marsh.
This comprehensive guide is set to become an essential companion for walkers, cyclists and visitors wishing to discover the remote beauty of the Lerderderg River and its dramatic gorge, along with the region’s rich cultural and environmental heritage.
Designed as a companion to the Association’s award-winning Goldfields Track Walk or Ride Guide, the new publication offers far more than detailed map spreads. It presents large-scale maps at a ratio of 1:17,500, accompanied by clear track notes, informative essays and fascinating insights into the natural and cultural significance of the Lerderderg area.
Readers will find engaging stories about the land, its people and its history woven throughout the guide.
Although located close to Melbourne, the rugged terrain of the Lerderderg has long made it challenging to access. This new guidebook now opens up the area for safe and enjoyable exploration.
The Association deserves great credit for producing such a valuable resource, which, together with improved signage, will help ensure that hikers are better equipped and more confident when venturing into this extraordinary landscape.
