Spring in the Perth Hills is a vibrant season of blooming wildflowers, cascading waterfalls, and scenic walks — and now, it’s getting a festival to celebrate it all.

The first-ever Perth Hills WanderFest will take place from September 26 to 29, inviting walkers of all levels to explore the natural beauty of the region. Trails across Gidgegannup, Kalamunda, Chidlow, Bedfordale, and Jarrahdale will come alive with guided hikes led by award-winning local tour companies, The Hike Collective and Off the Beaten Track WA.

The curated walks offer something for everyone. Beginners can enjoy a peaceful 3km loop at FR Berry Reserve, known as a hidden gem of wilderness. Experienced hikers can take on the more challenging Kitty’s Gorge trail, rewarded with views of the stunning Serpentine Falls.

There are family-friendly and inclusive options too. Young adventurers can look out for fairy wrens at Piesse Brook, while seniors might prefer the gentle 5km trail at Armadale Settlers Common. For those needing accessible paths, Lake Leschenaultia offers a low-impact trail ideal for wheelchairs, prams, and walking aids — with scenic rest spots along the way.

Sonja Mitchell, CEO of Destination Perth, says WanderFest is a chance to experience the world-class trails and rich natural heritage of the Perth Hills.

“We encourage hikers to make a day of it by visiting the area’s distinctive cafes, wineries, pubs and shops,” she said. “WanderFest is all about connection — with nature, community, and the region’s unique charm.”
