The hiking app AllTrails has released its list of Australia’s top ten bucket-list hikes for 2025, based on the trails walkers most aspired to complete.

Taking the number one spot was the spectacular Kings Canyon Rim Walk.

Located within Watarrka National Park, the 7-kilometre circuit is widely considered one of Australia’s most breathtaking desert hikes. The walk begins with a steep ascent known as “Heartbreak Hill”, a climb that quickly tests the legs but rewards walkers almost immediately with sweeping views across towering sandstone cliffs and the vast red landscapes of the Northern Territory.

Once on the rim, the trail follows the canyon’s edge, where sheer 100-metre walls plunge dramatically into the lush valley below. Sunlight moves across the layered rock throughout the day, revealing colours that shift from deep rust and burnt orange to warm gold. Along the way, hikers pass the weathered domes of the Lost City, remarkable formations sculpted over millions of years by wind and water.

The walk eventually descends to the serene Garden of Eden, a surprising oasis of cycads and permanent waterholes hidden within the canyon walls. It’s a hike where every turn reveals another dramatic vista, reminding visitors just how ancient and striking Australia’s desert landscapes can be.

The next hike Australians were most eager to tick off their bucket lists was the iconic Bondi to Coogee Walk. Although far busier than Kings Canyon, this beautiful coastal route remains a rite of passage for locals and visitors alike. The 12.7-kilometre return walk begins at Bondi Beach and follows the coastline to Coogee Beach, passing picturesque spots including Bronte Beach and Tamarama Beach.

Coming in third was the challenging Main Range Walk in Kosciuszko National Park. Part of the Snowies Alpine Walk, this 24.3-kilometre trek is longer and more demanding than the first two trails, but the reward is the chance to stand atop Mount Kosciuszko, Australia’s highest peak.
