Adelaide’s stunning southern coastline has welcomed a striking new addition with the official opening of the Witton Bluff Base Trail.

This long-anticipated $9.3 million project connects Christies Beach and Port Noarlunga via a shared-use, fully accessible pathway — offering a spectacular new way to experience one of South Australia’s most iconic coastal areas.

Spanning 1.1 kilometres, the trail marks the completion of the project’s second and final stage, following last year’s boardwalk unveiling. Locals and visitors alike can now explore a three-metre-wide asphalt path, enhanced with solar lighting and upgraded fencing, designed for people of all ages and abilities.

Part of the State Government’s Coast Park initiative — a 70-kilometre network of walking and cycling trails across metropolitan Adelaide — the new trail is poised to become a major destination for both residents and tourists.

Beyond its scenic appeal, the project also strengthens coastal resilience. Over 20,000 tonnes of rock have been used to reshape and reinforce the bluff’s seawall, forming a protective crest to combat erosion, rising sea levels, and storm surges.

Federal Member for Kingston, Amanda Rishworth, highlighted the significance of the $1.2 million federal investment. “This has been a long-standing goal for our community,” she said. “The trail not only connects two beloved beachside towns—it drives tourism and supports local businesses.”
