Just an hour and a half from Brisbane, D’Aguilar National Park offers a striking mix of remote gorges, subtropical rainforest pockets, vast eucalypt woodlands and scenic views stretching to Moreton Bay.
Protecting the D’Aguilar Range’s diverse bushland, the park is a haven for nature lovers, bushwalkers and adventurers.
Start your visit at the Walkabout Creek Discovery Centre before heading into the cooler forests of Southern D’Aguilar. Here, you’ll find scenic lookouts like Jolly’s Lookout — wheelchair-accessible and perfect for a barbecue overlooking Samford Valley. Nearby at Boombana, stroll through lush rainforest where strangler figs and vines thrive.
Further north in the Mount Mee section, explore the historic Gantry day-use area or take a refreshing swim in Rocky Hole’s forest-ringed rockpool. Fit walkers can tackle the Somerset Trail for panoramic views of Somerset and Wivenhoe lakes. Four-wheel-drive campers can stay at Archer or Neurum Creek campsites.
For experienced hikers and mountain bikers, the 25km Aquila Loop is a challenging adventure. Winding through mountainous terrain, it reveals changing landscapes — from open eucalypt forest to subtropical rainforest and palm groves. Highlights include the summit of Northbrook Mountain with sweeping views of the England Creek catchment.
Make it an overnight trip by camping at one of two remote bush camps: beside the creek at England Creek or atop the range at Northbrook Mountain. With clearly classified trails for all skill levels, D’Aguilar National Park is a gateway to Queensland’s natural beauty, just a short drive from the city.
