Just weeks after fire swept through its dramatic coastline, SA's Deep Creek Conservation Park is reopening—and the iconic Wild South Coast Way is once again welcoming visitors.

While more than 4500 hectares were affected, including most of neighbouring Talisker Conservation Park, around 60% of Deep Creek remains untouched. Thanks to the tireless efforts of local and interstate fire crews, including CFS, MFS and National Parks and Wildlife Service teams, large sections of this much-loved destination are now open and ready to explore.

For travellers, this is a rare moment. The Wild South Coast Way is open for business, offering not only its signature coastal views and rugged beauty, but also a powerful glimpse into nature’s resilience. Visitors can return to favourite unburnt areas while witnessing the early stages of regeneration across the landscape—new growth emerging, wildlife returning, and ecosystems beginning to rebuild.

Whether you’re planning a weekend escape or a longer stay, Deep Creek remains a standout destination on the Fleurieu Peninsula. It protects the region’s largest remaining area of natural vegetation and provides vital habitat for native species including western grey kangaroos, short-beaked echidnas, southern brown bandicoots and bearded dragons.

Spring brings a vibrant display of wildflowers among more than 400 native plant species, while birdwatchers can spot over 100 species year-round. From June to October, migrating whales can also be seen cruising along the coastline.

Campgrounds across the park are progressively reopening, with several accessible by 2WD and others offering more remote, hike-in experiences.
