"WANTED" posters have gone up around America's Grand Teton National Park, warning visitors about an unexpected shoe bandit roaming the area.
A mischievous fox has reportedly stolen at least 32 shoes from unsuspecting campers and park visitors over the past several weeks. In response, rangers have issued light-hearted alerts with nicknames for the culprit, including “Sneaker Snatcher,” “The Midnight Mismatcher,” and “Swiper the Fox.”
To protect their belongings, campers are being advised to store their shoes securely—preferably inside bear-proof boxes, locked vehicles, or at the very least, inside their tents. Leaving footwear out in the open is an invitation to the crafty thief.
According to officials speaking with Backpacker magazine, it's still unclear whether the shoe heists are the work of a single fox or multiple foxes working together. Regardless of who's behind the capers, park staff are urging visitors to take precautions in hopes of curbing the unusual crime spree.
