Good news for Bibbulmun Track walkers!

Last week, we reported the theft of three large water tanks from sections of the walk in the Perth Hills, which caused concern among the hiking community. These tanks have now been successfully reinstated at Helena and Waalegh campsites following their recent removal, restoring a vital water source along this stretch of the Bibbulmun Track.

A big thank you goes to Parks and Wildlife Service, Western Australia (DBCA), for their prompt response and efforts in replacing the tanks. This infrastructure plays an important role in supporting walkers, particularly across longer distances between shelters where reliable water access can be limited.

While all hikers should continue to carry sufficient water for their journey, it is reassuring to see these facilities back in place and available once again.

We also extend our appreciation to everyone who shared updates and supported the Track community while the situation was being resolved. Your communication and awareness made a real difference.

If you’re planning to head out on the track soon, you can once again rely on the tanks at both sites. As always, check conditions before setting out and ensure you are well prepared for your walk.

The incident has been reported to WA Police, and investigations are ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
