The things we do for our mates.

Rev Stuart Huntley, an ordained Church of England priest and historical re-enactor, will embark on a two-day walk dressed in full medieval costume in memory of his friend Will, who tragically died by suicide.

The pilgrimage will raise funds for the suicide bereavement charity Pete's Dragons, as well as support 10 local churches along the route.

“Will had a vibrant love of history and formed deep, lasting friendships that touched everyone who knew him,” Rev Huntley said. “He was a professional surveyor who found joy in exploring historic places. His death was a profound loss to his family and all of us who cared about him.”

Rev Huntley explained that walking in period clothing felt like a fitting tribute: “This pilgrimage is a way to celebrate his life and support a charity that helps families navigate the pain of suicide loss.”

He added that the walk would also serve as a personal journey of healing and reflection: “I hope it raises awareness of mental health, grief, and the importance of supporting one another.”

The walk will follow a historic path from Canterbury to Folkestone, inspired by Queen Ethelburga’s 7th-century journey. Rev Huntley and Will had shared a 25-year friendship, first meeting through English Civil War reenactments.
