Just in case there hasn’t been enough mushroom news lately, hikers on psychedelic mushrooms had to be rescued after getting lost in the mountains in New York state.

A hiking trip in New York’s Catskill Mountains took a magical — and very trippy — turn when four adventurers veered off the trail, thanks to some psychedelic mushrooms.

The group texted 911 from near Giant Ledge in the Slide Mountain Wilderness, reporting that one member was having a less-than-enlightening experience involving a hallucinated bridge. (Spoiler: the bridge didn’t exist.)

Forest rangers sprang into action and, within two hours, found the group wandering less than 300m from the actual trail. Apparently, psilocybin mushrooms are great at bending minds — and not so great at improving your sense of direction!

The psychedelic saga didn’t end there: the group had also misplaced their car keys. A ranger kindly hiked back the next day and found them under a log. Talk about a trip!

In case you were wondering, magic mushrooms are known to cause vivid hallucinations, time loops and questionable hiking decisions.
