Work has officially commenced on the four-day Dorrigo Great Escarpment Walk in northern NSW, a major new hiking experience set to showcase the spectacular rainforest landscapes of northern New South Wales.
Stretching 54km through Dorrigo National Park and Bindarri National Park, the multi-day trail will take walkers deep into ancient rainforest, past dramatic waterfalls and along the edge of the escarpment. The route will also highlight the rich cultural heritage of the Gumbaynggirr people, offering visitors a stronger connection to Country throughout the journey.
Three purpose-built campsites are being constructed along the track to support hikers undertaking the four-day walk. The low-impact accommodation will include bunk huts, tent platforms and shared cooking shelters, creating more comfortable overnight stops while reducing environmental impact in the surrounding wilderness.
The project also includes a major redevelopment of the Dorrigo Rainforest Centre. Existing facilities will be replaced with a striking new “Arc” visitor hub designed to blend into the natural environment and connect directly to the park’s well-known Skywalk through the rainforest canopy.
The NSW Government is investing $56.4 million into the project as demand for nature-based tourism continues to grow. North Coast parks recorded 6.81 million visits in 2024/25, while visitation across the state’s national parks reached a record 65.5 million visits last financial year.
