Matt Tomkins, A break amidst moss-clad beech (PEOPLE WILDERNESS 2024)

Dad and I taking a short break before we continued on down the trail in Nelson Lakes National Park, New Zealand. The trail that day involved a steep ascent, and an equally steep descent, so we were glad to find this spot to rest among the moss-clad beech trees. This hike was part of the Te Araroa trail – an ultra-long distance hiking trail that runs 3,000km along the length of New Zealand.
