Alan Daniel, Grose Valley, blackened (PLACES WILDERNESS)

The Grose Valley was hit hard by the fires of 2020, then hit again by the flooding rains that ended the fires. Normally, it’s unusual to see anything of the river from this spot, perhaps a glint or two through the tree cover, but much of that cover turned to ash in the fires. The floods widened banks of the river making it much more visible from the cliffs above. In this shot I tried to show the scale of the damage, and the sadness I felt in seeing it all. Black and white seemed somehow appropriate.
