Graham Earnshaw, Mornington Magic (PLACES WILDERNESS)
On my recent Kimberley adventure, one of the very special places we visited along the Gibb River Road was the Australian Wildlife Conservancy's Mornington Wildlife Sanctuary. My partner and I stayed there for 3 nights and enjoyed an incredible experience. A highlight was seeing in the wild the endangered Gouldian Finch (the AWC prides itself on the success it is having in expanding the numbers of Gouldian Finches in the Kimberley). Unfortunately I didn't quite capture a wonderful shot of a Gouldian, but during a sunset twitching session on day 2 of our stay, the place we stationed ourselves to watch for the birdies had a stunning collection of Boabs growing along the edge of a small creek. And there was one Boab which really stood out, with it beautiful curved main branch arching up towards the sky. And the sunset was a bit of a gorgeous one, so this just added to the very special moment.
