David Dudley, Mt Taranaki, New Zealand (PLACES WILDERNESS 2022)
Mt Taranaki is one of New Zealand's active volcanoes . The last major eruption occurred about 1650. It was first climbed by a European in 1839 and it takes a fit hiker 8-10 hours for the ascent and descent. My wife, Kirsten and I visited Mt Taranaki as part of a holiday for our 40th wedding anniversary and we hiked several of its tracks at lower elevations.
