Alistair Drew, Sando's Sandhills (PEOPLE WILDERNESS 2022)

On a trip through central western Queensland we based ourselves in Windorah for a couple of days. I wanted to photograph life in the desert and these sandhills a short drive to the west of town seemed a likely spot. While I was focused on photographing detail in the area, the couple pictured here made their way to the top of the dune with champagne and camp chairs in hand. As we were leaving I turned back for one last look and I saw the couple and the dune washed in the blazing afternoon sun, and I had to stop and capture this image. Every time I look at this it reminds me of the stark beauty of the outback and the pleasure to be found in the simple things in life.
