Tasmania’s Overland Track offers a rare blend of raw wilderness and quiet beauty.
Stretching through the Cradle Mountain–Lake St Clair National Park, the trail winds across alpine plateaus, ancient rainforests, and glacial valleys. Early mornings often reveal mist drifting over button grass plains, while evenings can glow with soft, golden light.
Wildlife — wombats, wallabies, and curious birds — adds to the sense of connection with nature.
Yet the track is not without its challenges. Weather can shift rapidly, bringing rain, wind, and even snow in a single day. The terrain varies from well-formed boardwalks to muddy, uneven paths that test endurance.
Carrying a full pack over multiple days demands both physical preparation and mental resilience. Despite this, or perhaps because of it, completing the Overland Track feels deeply rewarding — a journey that strips life back to essentials and leaves a lasting respect for Tasmania’s rugged, untamed landscapes.
In this video, hiker Jack Brookes offers his views on walking the Overland Track - and he has a lot to say.
Look and learn.
