Walking the Aussie Camino

Partake on a pilgrimage without leaving the country! The Mary Mackillop Way, also known as the Aussie Camino, follows the footsteps of Australia’s first and only saint, Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop.

Starting from Portland in Victoria, where MacKilliop first got the call to travel, the walk ends in Penola, South Australia – the birthplace of the Sisters of St Joseph and their Catholic school open to educating any child without distinction.

The trail visits historically significant locations visited by Mary MacKillop and Father Julian Tenison Woods, following parts of the Great South West Walk, before branching out to numerous farm tracks, goat trails, abandoned railway lines, roads and motorways, cliff tops, beaches and sand dunes.
