If you’re looking for a walking holiday to break the winter blues then this one could be for you.
Queensland’s flagship walking experience, the Scenic Rim Trail, has unveiled a new 4-day self-guided option, giving experienced hikers a more independent way to explore one of the state’s most celebrated landscapes.
For the first time, the full 60km trail can be completed without a guide, while still offering access to its exclusive network of private eco-accommodation.
Tailored to capable and self-sufficient walkers, the itinerary allows hikers to move at their own pace, travelling hut-to-hut between remote lodges and eco-camps. Each day ends with comfortable accommodation and prepared meals, removing the need to carry heavy packs or camping equipment.
The self-guided format complements the trail’s established guided walks, broadening its appeal to confident hikers who value flexibility and autonomy, without sacrificing comfort or access.
Along the way, walkers traverse a diverse landscape that includes World Heritage-listed Gondwana Rainforests, pockets of subtropical rainforest, open eucalypt forest and sweeping ridgelines. Despite its remote feel, the trail sits just 90 minutes from Brisbane.
Bookings for the four-day Scenic Rim Trail self-guided experience open on 10 June 2026, with departures currently scheduled on a monthly basis. Click here for more info.
