Our tour operator of the week is Ultimate Hikes who will guide you along the Routeburn Track with plenty of creature comforts thrown in.
The Routeburn Track is one of New Zealand’s iconic Great Walks, linking Mount Aspiring and Fiordland national parks across a spectacular alpine landscape.
Walked over three unhurried days, the journey runs from the Divide on the Milford Road to the Routeburn Shelter near Glenorchy. Along the way, the scenery shifts constantly.
Mossy beech forest opens into wide alpine basins, suspension bridges cross clear mountain rivers, and at Harris Saddle, the highest point of the track, expansive views stretch deep into Fiordland and the Southern Alps.
Each afternoon, walkers arrive at Ultimate Hikes’ private lodges, set in remote locations and accessible only on foot. These welcoming retreats offer hot showers, drying rooms and comfortable shared spaces to relax and reflect on the day.
Multi-share rooms are a popular choice for friends travelling together, adding to the social, easy-going feel of the lodges, while private ensuite rooms provide a quiet place to unwind. Evenings are a highlight, with three-course, chef-prepared meals enjoyed around the table and time to swap stories from the track.
With Ultimate Hikes, the experience is simple and seamless. Transport, accommodation and meals are all taken care of, leaving you free to focus on the walking and the scenery.
Bookings for the Routeburn Track open in February for the 2026/27 season, which runs from 1 November 2026 to mid-April 2027.
