Hidden Italy announces new Basilicata guided walk

One of Italy’s least-explored regions!

Our good friends at Hidden Italy have announced a new guided tour to Basilicata, offering 12 nights exploring the heart of southern Italy, with a spectacular mix of mountains, national parks, forests and coastline.

Basilicata remains one of Italy’s least-explored regions, making it an ideal destination for walkers looking to venture beyond the country’s better-known tourist hotspots. Stretching across the ‘instep’ of Italy’s boot, this rugged and beautiful region is a land of dramatic rock formations, mountains, forests and high-altitude meadows. It also boasts short but stunning coastlines along both the Tyrrhenian and Ionian Seas.

The tour takes in two of Basilicata’s most spectacular national parks. Pollino National Park is home to soaring limestone mountains, ancient beech forests and distinctive Bosnian pines, while Gallipoli-Cognato National Park features the striking sandstone peaks of the Lucani Dolomites.

Along the way, there’s also plenty of time to discover some of southern Italy’s most fascinating towns and villages, each offering its own history, architecture, food and local character.

Travelling in autumn brings another advantage. With milder temperatures and fewer visitors, it’s a wonderful time to explore the region on foot. Long, balmy days are ideal for walking, while the forests begin to take on their autumn colours, adding another layer of beauty to the landscape.

For walkers seeking an authentic Italian adventure away from the crowds, Basilicata promises a memorable combination of wild landscapes, fascinating culture and spectacular scenery.
