Time is running out to save on entry to the Wilderness Photographer of the Year, presented by Mountain Designs. Early-bird pricing closes this Sunday, 5 July, with the discounted entry fee of $20 increasing to the standard fee of $29 from Monday, 6 July.

Entries are already rolling in, so now is the perfect time to submit your best images. With more than $20,000 in prizes up for grabs – including luxury guided walking holidays, premium outdoor gear, personal locator beacons and $5,000 cash – there’s plenty of incentive to enter.

The competition features three categories:

Places – Showcase breathtaking wilderness landscapes, from dramatic mountain ranges and rugged coastlines to sweeping panoramas. Images may be taken anywhere in the world.

People – Celebrate the human connection with the outdoors. Whether it’s hikers on a trail, campers beneath the stars or subtle signs of adventure such as a tent or campsite, if people or evidence of human activity appear in the frame, this is the category to enter.

Nature – Capture the beauty of the natural world, from native wildlife and birds to wildflowers, fungi, insects and intimate macro subjects. Images from anywhere in the world are eligible.

Do you keep the copyright of your image/s?

Absolutely. Unlike some photography competitions, entrants retain full copyright of their images. Great Walks only requests a limited licence to use submitted photographs for the administration and promotion of the Wilderness Photographer of the Year competition. Whenever an image is used by Great Walks, the competition or its sponsors, the photographer will be credited.

Please note: All entries must have been photographed on or after 1 January 2024.
