Great Walks Aug-Sept cover revealed

Plenty of inspiring walks on offer

Great Walks 17.07.2026

The cover of our August–September issue has been revealed, featuring two happy bushwalkers enjoying a scenic trail through Woomargama National Park in New South Wales.

The edition celebrates our Colours of Australia theme, showcasing some of the country’s most spectacular walking destinations. Highlights include the Gold Coast Hinterland Walk, the best day walks in the Red Centre, the lush landscapes of Queensland’s Daintree National Park, and the rugged beauty of the Victorian High Country.

For those looking to explore beyond traditional hiking, we also try our hand at bike-hiking in the NSW Snowy Mountains. Combining cycling with bushwalking, it’s an exciting way to cover longer distances, reach remote trailheads more quickly, and experience the landscape from a fresh perspective.

This issue is also our Camino special, featuring some of the world’s most rewarding pilgrimage routes. We explore iconic Caminos across France and Spain, along with inspiring pilgrim walks in other parts of the world.

To help readers prepare for their own adventure, six Australian pilgrims share the lessons they learned on the trail. Their advice is remarkably consistent: the secret to enjoying the Camino is to pace yourself rather than race. Break in your boots well before departure, carry only the essentials, stay hydrated, eat regularly, and listen to your body.

Rest when needed, treat blisters early, and be prepared for changing weather. Above all, embrace the camaraderie of fellow pilgrims, remain flexible with your plans, and savour every step of the journey.
