In the late 19th century Austrian alpinist and traveller Robert Von Ledenfeld was convinced that Australia's highest mountain, Mount Kosciuszko, had been wrongly identified and repeatedly wrote to the papers telling them he'd discovered Australia's real highest mountain.

But is the story that Mount Townsend and Mount Kosciuszko swapped names to fix the mistake true, or a tall tale?
