Have you got what it takes to win our Wilderness Photographer of the Year comp, presented by Mountain Designs?!
Now in its sixth year, the annual competition celebrates the very best images of the natural world and is open to photographers from Australia and New Zealand.
Whether you’re passionate about dramatic mountain landscapes, unforgettable wildlife encounters or inspiring moments on the trail, this is your chance to share your work with the outdoor community and compete for an incredible prize pool worth more than $20,000.
Prizes up for grabs include fantastic outdoor experiences, personal locator beacons, premium Mountain designs gear plus a share of $5,000 cash. It’s a brilliant opportunity to gain recognition, challenge yourself creatively and be rewarded for capturing the beauty of wild places.
Winning isn’t just about the prizes. Winners, runners-up and the Top 10 images in each category will also be featured in a special Great Walks magazine edition (Feb–Mar 2027) and showcased online at www.greatwalks.com.au, giving your photography exposure to thousands of outdoor enthusiasts.
There are three categories – Place, People and Nature.
Places celebrates spectacular wilderness landscapes, from soaring mountain ranges and rugged coastlines to sweeping panoramas.
People highlights human experiences in wild places.
Nature is all about flora and fauna, from iconic wildlife to tiny fungi, orchids and insects.
Your images can be taken in wilderness areas anywhere in the world, so start sorting through your favourite shots or head out in search of your next masterpiece. Entries close Sunday 18 October 2026.
